February 20, 2019

During the afternoon of December 20th, the juniors and seniors sat expectantly in the auditorium for the opening ceremony to announce the beginning of the new semester.

The ceremony started with a video made by the Media Group, which creatively summarized the big events of last semester. Then, director Liu motivated the students with a speech revolving around the theme “looking back, looking forward.” She emphasized the importance of reflecting upon our past to better our future.

Next, the senior head teacher, Dr. Chen, expressed her sincere hope that the seniors will treasure their last semester in school and help the juniors with their knowledge and experience. Ms. Gu, the junior head teacher, reminded the students of the importance of self-motivation, which will enable them to be “the best of yourself.”

Afterwards, student representatives shared their own experiences. Benjamin from 11(6) shared some study tips that transformed him into a distinctive student, including previewing textbooks and improving nutrition intake. Jerry from 12(1) reminded seniors to actively ask themselves what they want to become before embarking on a new chapter in their lives. Class 11(1)‘s Lily shared her winter activities and hopes that others, like her, can explore and pursue their interests. Lucas from class 12(8) says that it is acceptable for one to take time before finding a passion. He then wished everyone luck in a “tough and fulfilling semester.” The opening ceremony ended with the announcement of class ethos award, leaving students inspired and ready for the new semester.
