Grade 7: Youth Development: Brain-Teasing Riddles

March 2, 2022

“Riddle me this, riddle me that. Whos afraid of the big, black cat?”— Jim Carrey, 1995

“Ooh! Ooh! I know this one!” and a fair amount of screaming was all anyone could hear on the afternoon of February 24, 2022. In the last class of the day, the students had a free-for-all riddle contest.

One may ask, “Shouldn’t everyone’s energy be used up already by the entire day of school work?” Well, there was a holy grail all the competitors sought: lollipops. As the better English people solved more of the English riddles (and vice versa for the people who are better at Chinese), an overemphasis on each student’s best subject was apparent. This led to some people getting more points than others, and a power gap appeared. Nevertheless, many students got the lollipops they wanted, and everyone went home “happily” to finish their unfinished assignments.

Many people are waiting for the next event to get more lollipops. Who knows, maybe the prize value will go up next time?
