Grade 9 Assembly: The Importance of Sleeping

February 24, 2022

On February 22, Grade 9 weekly assembly lectures of the second semester kickstarted with Corrine from 9(9). In contrast to last semester’s lectures that were mostly academic-based, she chose to address the widespread issue of sleep deprivation.

As an insomniac herself, she wanted to share her experiences with battling insomnia while also providing a science-based overview of sleep deprivation. She first went through some basic terminology. Then she went on to list the harms of not getting enough sleep, including cardiovascular damage, memory loss, and, ultimately, death. She used three case studies and even included her own personal experience to prove that getting enough sleep is essential. She also provided an overview of common sleep disorders but advised the audience to seek medical attention if they deem it necessary, not self-diagnosing solutions. At the end, she recommended some methods that could help one quickly fall asleep based on her own personal experience and also listed some bad habits that should be avoided.
