Grade 8: Online YD Class
On Friday, March 6th, grade eight students of SHSID gathered on Zoom for a Youth Development class discussing online safety.
At 8:20 a.m., after everyone entered the online meeting room, the homeroom teachers introduced the topic for today, and then everyone shared their ideas about online safety—whether it was advice, examples, or simply their personal opinions. Some of these thoughts included: refrain from informing people (whom you are unacquainted with) about your passwords and information, avoid, or at least beware of, unknown sites and apps, use strong passwords that cannot be easily guessed, and of course, be respectful and polite talking to others online. Everyone left the class with their perspectives and opinions on online safety widened by the thoughts of others. After this discussion, every student logged in to the LinkedClassroom platform to watch and learn the prerecorded lessons according to the timetable.
With the COVID-19 preventing students and teachers gathering together to learn at school, one may think that it would be impossible for us to learn at all, but just because schools have halted doesn’t mean that education has halted.Whenever and whereever, students can continue their learning by watching and using the online recouses prepared by their teachers. However, seeing as everything is happening entirely online, there are also risks that come with using the internet. Therefore, it is our duty, as digital and global citizens, to use the internet in a safe and responsible way so as to prevent people from getting harmed while using this important means of globalization, entertainment, communication, and information.
