Grade 11: MFP Club Christmas & New Year Charity Concert

December 27, 2019

In the afternoon of December 20, MFP Club held a Christmas and New Year’s Concert in the Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC). This was the 16th charity concert held by the club at SCMC. Dr. Chen Zhiwei, the Secretary-General of the Youth League Committee of SCMC, Mr. Shao Mingxiang, the Secretary-General of Shanghai High School Alumni Foundation, and Kingsley, the Founder and President of MFP Club each delivered opening speeches. They wished the children, parents, and medical staff a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This concert was hosted by Jonathan and Grace. In the first opening program, Kingsley and Grace played the SCMC song "Protecting Spring." In order to create a festive atmosphere, the members from junior and primary school presented the Christmas music "Edelweiss", featuring piano, violin, flute, and chorus. There were many different instruments and styles of music in the performance: the Clarinet Trio’s "Mozart’s Serenade No.1," the Bass and Piano Ensemble’s "Gone but not Forgotten," the Flute Quartet’s "Waltz in D major," a violin solo of "Beethoven’s Spring Sonata," the String Ensemble’s "Por Una Cabeza," a trumpet solo of "Pigeon and Youth," the theme song of "Castle in the Sky" by Joe Hisaishi, a piano solo of the movie theme song from “Tron: Legacy” and “The Legend of 1900,” and "Schobert’s Impromptu." These performances all gave the audience a nice and varied experience. The String and Piano Ensemble rendition of “Castle in the Sky” and the piano piece "Ave Maria" were greatly applauded. The Russian style Jazz suite by Shostakovich, with the Orchestra and Piano Ensemble, brought the concert to a climax and created a gorgeous ending. Finally, all the club members sang "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" and the concert ended happily.

After the concert, members of the club came to the Endocrine Ward with gifts. The club encouraged hospitalized children to face the diseases bravely and also shared wishes that they would get well soon.
