“Duke of Edinburgh's International Award”Information Session

October 12, 2019

SHSID joined the Duke of Edinburgh International Award project ("DOE") in March 2019. Through a semester of good efforts, more than 10 students have successfully completed AJ (outdoor adventure project) during the summer vacation of 2019. Now they are preparing to apply for the bronze award.

At the beginning of the 2019 academic year, SHSID started recruiting for the second batch of candidates for the DOE Awards. A month later, on September 27th, an information session was held in XMT 209 for students and parents.

The session was presided over by Ms. Liu Qin, Director of the Student Affairs Center. Also, Director of Grade 10 and the authorized Award Leader of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, Ms. Yu Zhen introduced detailed requirements of the Award and the possible benefits for students to participate in the Award.

Ms. Yu stressed that the real benefits of the DOE lay beyond the process of college application. Ms. Yu encouraged the students to smartly make selections of DOE activities and provided the formula: Be SMART = Specific + Measurable + Achievable + Realistic + Time-bound. Over the next part of the session, Penny, an outstanding 10th grader who participated in the first DOE activities, introduced her experience of participating the activities in the past six months to give attendants a legible guide.

The session proceeded to a good end by a firm introduction of the AJ project by Ms. Shen Chenli, the Award Leader that led the team to participate in the first DOE activities. Parents and students all expressed their interest in the information they received.

Let us look forward to the second batch of students in the DOE activities, and continue to discover, understand, break through, strive and become better individuals!
