Primary School English Department: Grade 1 English Class

September 28, 2019

Grade 1 has been so excited to learn so many new things during their English classes.

During the past few weeks they have been working on their short “a” and short “i” spelling words. 1st Grade students have tried many different ways to sort their words into the correct word family. They also learned what fables and fairy tales are by reading Jack and the Wolf and The Three Little Pigs.

Additionally, 1st Grade students started reading nonfiction texts like “How Animals Communicate” and “Insect Messages”. Teachers used these nonfiction texts to practice students’ skills of summarizing and finding the main idea and key details. Students were so excited to also start their Explanatory writing unit describing many different ways of how to do tasks, such as how to get ready for school or how to make tea.
