Grade 6-8:Opening Ceremony

September 3, 2019

On Monday, September 2nd, 2019, students and teachers from Grades 6 through 8 attended the Opening Ceremony in the auditorium. After Mr. Shen, director of Grades 6 through 8, announced the start of the ceremony, Letitia from 6(12) came to the stage to share her excitement and anticipation for the upcoming semester after five happy years of elementary school. Naturally, she also had some doubts about entering junior high school, but she hopes everyone will work hard and develop good learning habits in the new semester. Following Letitia, Jonathan Hu from 7(3) shared his experience after entering SHSID as a freshman last year. To quickly adapt to SHSID’s intense learning style, Jonathan tried a lot of methods and shared some of the more effective techniques with the audience. The third speaker was Chloe from 8(9). Chloe participated in many extracurricular activities during the last school year, such as the Innovative Science and Technology competition and various service-learning programs. Through these activities, she acquired time management skills and became a successful independent learner.

Following the student speeches, Mr. Shen came to the stage to give his speech. He believes that all students should dare to tackle challenges and emphasized the importance of teamwork. The last speaker was Mr. Liu, the Elementary and Middle School Principal at SHSID. He talked about the importance of independent learning and how to find the best learning strategy when working towards goals. He also encouraged students to leave their comfort zone and to keep an effective balance between study and relaxation. Afterwards, last year’s outstanding students were presented with awards including the Great Studies award, Good Studies award, Rapid Progress award, Sports award, etc.

With endless encouragement and advice from their teachers and friends, may that all SHSID students have a happy and progressive time in the coming year.
