Pudong Campus Grade 1: Dr. Seuss Week

March 30, 2021

During week 5, from March 22 to March 26, the first graders from the SHSID Pudong campus learned all about and celebrated the work of the famous children’s author Dr. Seuss! During this week, students and teachers dressed up each day according to a different theme to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s wacky, whimsical style.

On Monday, students wore their favorite hats and read a comical story: The Cat in the Hat, after which they designed and made their Cat in the Hat craft. Tuesday was a twisted-up day. After listening to the story Fox in Socks, the students practiced saying some tongue twisters, and they also finished an interesting writing game. Wednesday was wacky socks day. The students participated in an entertaining activity named Wacky Wednesday. This included reading the story and then playing rhyming Bingo! On Thursday, students could find a “twin” and dress up to match each other. Not only did they create oobleck, but they also painted Thing 1 and Thing 2, and they enjoyed wearing the twin costumes with their partners! Friday was the final day of Dr. Seuss Week. First graders were so excited because the teachers prepared a surprise meal of Green Eggs and Ham for them to try! The kids all loved it! They enjoyed learning in a happy atmosphere, making learning and reading extremely fun.

This was the week for all the readings we wanted to do! The teachers believe that through this week’s rich and enjoyable reading experiences, children developed their enjoyment of reading, created good reading habits, and will read more excellent books in the future!
