World Water Day - The Birding Club's Visit to Xuhui Bird Watching Photography Contest

March 25, 2021

On March 22nd, the SHSID birding club was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the "2021 World Water Day -- Xuhui Waterfront Birding & Photography Competition". World Water Day is celebrated every year on March 22 by the United Nations, which aims to arouse public awareness of water conservation and enhance water resources protection. The theme of this year's World Water Day is "valuing water." SHSID STEM advisor Mr. Liao Hui, birding club advisor Ms. Zeng Qiongyu, and three club members attended the opening ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, the bureau direction, Mr. Wang, Chun, of the Xuhui Ecology and Environment Bureau that organized the opening ceremony gave a wonderful speech on water resources and biodiversity of birds. He also called for more people to be aware of birds and water resources, and to join in consciously to protect birds and water resources. In the following round-table discussion session, the guests shared and discussed bird diversity, water technology, and water resources.

At the opening ceremony, the birding club also participated in the project exhibition with photographs of birds and bird introductions. Our birding club was found in 2017 and is dedicated to recording the biodiversity of birds on the campus and in the surrounding areas of Shanghai. Currently, club members have observed 94 bird species on campus, and they are also actively involved in biodiversity-related citizen science projects. The bird photographs in this exhibition were all taken on campus by the club members, and the bird introduction was also written by the club members. Many audiences were very interested in SHSID students' works, stopped watching them and exchanging ideas.

Thank all the guests that day for their wonderful sharing, and we hope “Xuhui Waterfront Birding & Photography Competition” to be completed successfully. Let us work together to open a wonderful new green life from the starting point of “valuing water”.
