Grade 11: Club Recruitment

March 16, 2021

The 11th grade students, accompanied by the cool air and welcoming spring rain, gathered in the XMT Annex Auditorium for the weekly Assembly on March 11th. Katelyn and Katherine, two talented students from 11(8), promoted their clubs.

Katelyn’s Public Speaking club is purely devoted to helping students that are afraid to speak in public. In order to achieve this goal, she encourages club members to give impromptu speeches in their practice sessions, and gives out practice speech prompts as homework. She hopes that students can overcome their fear and anxiety through thorough preparation and practice. As an experienced orator, Katelyn believes that the ultimate purpose of public speaking is to satisfy a human’s desire to express emotions, making every public-speaking experience an opportunity to demonstrate one’s opinion towards the audience, a chance to improve and perfect themselves.

Katherine’s intentions in setting up the International Club is to urge students from SHSID to surmount the cultural differences between Chinese and American cultures, and to establish amiable connections between students from American and Chinese high schools. She realizes that students from SHSID would soon study abroad, therefore, pen pals are amongst the best choices in understanding the incoming college life.

In the midst of full schedules, students that actively organize club activities must be commended, since they have added light to the vibrant school lives. Students that attend these activities have also earned invaluable memories for the future.
