High School Physics Department: 2020 British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) Awards Winners

February 21, 2021

On 14th November, 2020, students from SHSID were doing their British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) online or in their respective BPhO exam center.

The British Physics Olympiad is a charitable trust overseen by a committee of trustees. It was initiated in 1979, and has been used as a qualifier for the selection of the UK Physics Team for the International Physics Olympiad from 1983. The BPhO aims to encourage the study of physics and recognize excellence in young physicists through annual physics competitions. In BPhO, all problems are proof based, so students will need to apply a large range of knowledge, and can choose which question to answer. It's designed to test understanding and problem-solving skills. Top British candidates will have the opportunities to be chosen for the national team.

ASDAN China (ASDAN Academy) and the British Physics Olympiad committee have been working together to bring the competition to China from 2016. Students all over the world will compete together for the awards. Though Chinese students do not represent the UK national team, award winning students will have the chance to participate in the British Physics Olympia Camp (China).

Students from SHSID had an outstanding performance in the BPhO. They have won 2 Top Gold, 2 Gold, 8 Silver, 3 Bronze I, 5 Bronze II from the exam.

Special thanks to all students and supervisors for their effort. Once again, congratulations to all award winners!
