SHSID Students Volunteering at Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten

December 29, 2020

Volunteer activities in the surrounding communities have always been a tradition upheld by the teachers and students of SHSID. As Christmas approached, four student representatives from Grades 11 and 12 and their teachers went to volunteer at Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten. The students gathered at the school and sorted the masks, disinfectants, paint brushes, and other materials into boxes and then took them to the kindergarten.

After arriving at Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten, the students met the teachers there and moved the gifts and supplies under a Christmas tree in an orderly manner. Teachers and 12th grade students who had already participated in one year of volunteer activities passed on the details of the activities and past experiences to the newcomers in the 11th grade. After a short discussion, the teacher led students to visit the three-story building and backyard of the kindergarten to familiarize students with their future volunteer environment. Finally, the students learned about the activities that could be held in the near future, and left the kindergarten with excitement and anticipation for future volunteer activities.

In the past, volunteers from SHSID went to Shanghai Silent Angel Kindergarten in person to accompany the children in the class. However, due to the pandemic, it is not suitable or safe to meet with these children in person. But the volunteers still wanted to do their part to help them learn, so they decided to create audio-picture books with easy-to-understand stories, and hence is very suitable for them to read independently. The inspiration and interest in these books are of great educational significance to the children. It is expected that these books can make their learning experiences more interesting.
