Middle School Physics Department: Unit of Pressure—Pasca

To test the students’ ability to convey and deduce the knowledge they have learned, Grade 8 students started from the force unit “Newton” and explored another physics unit, “Pascal”. Although Pascal’s definition and application of the formula are not covered in the textbook, Grade 8 students demonstrated their understanding of the definition and application of pressure by consulting relevant data and formula derivation from external sources. They created bright and engaging posters covering the life and work of the scientist Pascal. This project not only improves the students’ ability to conduct research and writes reports, but it also lays the foundation for the pressure study to be covered next semester. Additionally, it improves the students’ scientific literacy by applying scientific thinking methods to carry out scientific reasoning from both qualitative and quantitative aspects.

In these research projects, students were inspired by the perseverance and dedication of each scientist. Students were amazed by the great changes brought about by their research and were excited to link textbook knowledge with scientific figures. This is not only a research project designed to cultivate students’ self-learning ability and word expression, but also a spiritual feast covering the history of scientific development. It opens a gateway for first-time physics students, allowing them to explore the treasure trove physics is in its entirety.
