This semester, High School students have participated in numerous competitions.

These began with a writing competition, which asked students to consider why their fellow students should care about a particular topic of interest. The aim was to give students an opportunity to share their interests beyond curriculum subjects and also, share their knowledge about different global issues. Students discussed topics including intersectional feminism; deconstructing stigmas surrounding mental health and the importance of Shark conservation. The winners of this competition were: Drake Zhao and Katie Liao from 11/12 group; Sarah Goldfay and Charlie Mou from 9/10 group.

Later in the semester, students then participated in the High School Speech Competition. Again, students were given the same prompt (Why Should I Care ) but were now asked to think beyond just their language, and to think about truly engaging their audience. Walking on stage with water pistols, pillows and even mannequins, the students did not disappoint. Both the 9/10 and 11/12 competition saw students from a range of grades and levels participate, which was great to see. Students demonstrated excellent confidence and a true passion for a wider variety of subject areas. The winners of this competition were: Emma, Gaia, and Jason from 11/12 group; and Winnie,Henrik, and Hannah from 9/10 group.

None of these competitions would have been possible without the support of staff. In particular, we would like to thank Mr Hartman and Mr Pickard for hosting the competition, and all the teachers who helped judge!
