Grade 12: SHSID Student Won Award in John Locke Institute Essay Competition

Shanghai High School International Division student Joanne stood out among nearly 3,000 essay submissions from across 80 countries in the 2020 John Locke Institute Essay Competition. She was first shortlisted for the psychology category, then was awarded a High Commendation in the final judgment in October.

The John Locke Institute Essay Competition is an international academic writing contest for middle school students held by the John Locke Institute, an independent educational organization, with its judges from top universities.

The competition offers essay prompts across seven subject categories: philosophy, politics, economics, history, psychology, theology, and law. This contest aims to cultivate and examine students’ depth of knowledge and understanding in various fields of humanities and social sciences, independent research capabilities, persuasive skill and style, independent thought, and clear reasoning skills.
