Grade 11-12: Career Day

December 2, 2019

On Wednesday, November 27th, SHSID held Career Day for grades 11 and 12. The event hosted 21 guest speakers who shared their expertise and provided insights on how to achieve career and personal goals.

The topics ranged from Insurance and Actuarial Science to Challenges and Opportunities in the World of Finance, from the Preservation of Historical Architectures to Supply Chain Management, which offered a variety of career ideas for students. One of the guest speakers mentioned “There are risks involved in every business; now that the age of Artificial Intelligence is upon us, many industries are at risk of being replaced by technologies. So choosing the right career in this time is essential.”

SHSID has always sought to foster a sense of adaptability, responsibility, and competitiveness in their students. Students are the embodiment of passion and eagerness to learn. Providing students with rich opportunities to discover and pursue their interests and shape their identities is crucial in this period of their academic lives. As students of an international school, SHSID students are provided with even more chances to raise global awareness, develop multicultural aspects, and adapt to the ever-changing world around them.

Therefore, Career Day has been held as an opportunity for the guests to share expertise in their fields and for the students to prepare and enrich their knowledge in future careers they may pursue. Career Day provided firsthand opportunities for the students to discover a variety of occupations they may hold particular interests in. Since Career Day was launched, it has received very positive feedback and praise from both parents and guest participants. Students have come to discover their potential and capabilities they intrinsically hold and are motivated to pursue a career that they not only are talented in, but also carry a passion for. Thanks to all the support from guests and parents, SHSID has become a home to many gifted and capable learners who, one day in the near future, will become mindful, successful people with global perspectives.

All the students who participated in the event have benefited greatly from the insights and expertise shared by the guest speakers. “This is a very great opportunity to educate ourselves from people who have worked years in their areas, who are successful in what they do, and expand our knowledge on careers that we may pursue in the future.” said Eric Lee of 11(9).
