Grade 4: Core Value – Optimism

November 27, 2019

Over the semester, the students have had weekly opportunities to learn about our monthly character traits and core values. We have focused on “Growth Mindset” and “Respect”, and now they have the chance to focus on “Optimism”. This character trait one of the SHSID 4thgrade core values. It is important for the children to have an optimistic mindset because this will help them be successful and allow them to see the good in all situations.

The teachers gave wonderful lessons on Thursday Nov. 21st about this important character trait. They allowed the students to take time to think critically about the topic, discuss it with their classmates, and come up with their own ideas on ways they can be more optimistic at school and at home. The teachers also created very nice and engaging bulletin boards to give visuals to the students about optimism and also as a way to display the creativity the students have shown regarding optimism.

The students were able to work on optimism through thought-provoking questions asked by the teachers and by being challenged to find the areas of their lives that they may not currently be optimistic about.

Through these activities and challenges, the students were encouraged to think more positively and develop a new outlook on their lives. This important core value will continue to be a focus throughout the month of December as the students are encouraged to continue to think about ways they can be more optimistic.
