Grade 10 Assembly: First Robotics Competition Introduction

November 25, 2019

On November 20th, 2019, William, a 10th grade SHSID student, introduced the First Robotics Competition (FRC) in morning assembly. He shared his knowledge and insights about the competition, as well as his experience and interest in robotics, with the rest of tenth grade.

Since being founded in 1989 by Dean. L. Karen, the FRC has been committed to encouraging young minds to explore new discoveries and use new technology to change the world. After introducing the history of the competition, William summarized the process of the competition. A seven month commitment is needed to prepare for the competition, making the challenge for participants not just a technical one but also a test of persistence and patience. Many of the students sitting in the room might have been hesitant to take up this excellent opportunity, concerned that they lack sufficient knowledge. However, the FRC competition requires more than just students who have experience in programming—competing teams also need students who are good at economics, finance, and other fields to contribute and use their knowledge.

We hope that students will step out of their comfort zone to take up such excellent opportunities, and also make precious and joyful memories in the process of challenging themselves.
