Grade 7: Chinese Speech Competition

June 17, 2019

On June 13th, SHSID held a Chinese Speech Competition for Grade 7 in the Auditorium of the Primary school. After nearly two weeks of in-class selections, fifteen seventh-grade students emerged from the preliminary competition and entered the final round. Each class’ contestants gave speeches on various social phenomena. The contestants talked about many aspects of society—some about the Notre Dame Fire in Paris, some about cyber-bullying, and others about climate change. The themes varied, reflecting a multitude of aspects of the society, which was thought-provoking. Even though the styles of presentation differed, contestants showed confidence and public speaking skills, and received strong response and applause from the audience. Moreover, both the contestants and spectators gained a lot from this event. The seventh graders improved their Chinese presentation skills and understood the deeper meanings behind many social news and phenomena. This also enabled the seventh graders to think and comment on social events from different perspectives. Finally, the speech competition has ended successfully.
