March 29, 2024

In the afternoon of March 26th, the teachers of the fourth and fifth grade math department of SHSID gathered together for an exciting seminar. The content of this seminar mainly included curriculum concepts and theories during teaching, innovative teaching methods, techniques for enhancing students' learning motivation, recent summaries of subject activities, and classroom teaching examples. During the seminar, Ms. Wang Yuanxin, the leader of the fifth-grade mathematics group, and Liu Fang, the vice principal of middle and primary school, shared insights into the lead-in part of class, concept-teaching part, reflect and revise processes, and key points in homework assignments. They elaborated on teaching philosophies such as “Situated Learning”, “Cognitive Conflict Theory”, “Hook & hold”, “Explore & Enable”, “Differentiated Instruction”, “Inquiry-based Learning” and “Project-based Learning”. Additionally, Principal Liu Fang explained a sample class design based on these philosophies, after which fourth and fifth grade math teachers engaged in enthusiastic discussions, analyzing both successful experiences and areas for improvement in their teaching processes. Through this meeting, not only did the teachers summarize the highlights of the subject since the beginning of the semester, but they also developed new teaching approaches. Equally important, this discussion served as a lubricant for the connection between fourth and fifth grade math teaching. It was truly a unique and informative sharing seminar!
