Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID), an international school in Shanghai,  implements a fully inclusive education system with a 100% exemption from examinations for Grades 1-12. The graduating class of 2024 at our school comprises students from various countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, China Hong Kong, Chinese Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Belgium, France, New Zealand, and others. The diverse destinations chosen by students for their next academic pursuits underscore the school's international perspective. According to preliminary statistics, about 120 students from the class of 2024 have selected the United States as their primary destination. Additionally, about 80 students have chosen universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Korea, as well as other European and Oceanic countries or regions, while a smaller number have opted to continue their studies in  Mainland of China.

In this promising spring at SHSID, the blooming cherry blossoms are accompanied by birdsong and chirping insects, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. Meanwhile, university admission letters have arrived at the Xianmian Building. We are pleased to share this update with all faculties and students (data as of March 30, 2024).

Key points for the class of 2024 admissions are summarized as follows:

1.Thirteen students have obtained a total of fifteen admissions from top-tier universities in the United States, including prestigious institutions in the "Ivy League" and those ranked within the top 10 by this year's US News & World Report. These universities include the California Institute of Technology (1 admission), Columbia University (3 admissions, including 2 dual degrees), Brown University (2 admissions), Dartmouth College (1 admission), Duke University (4 admissions), Johns Hopkins University (2 admissions), Northwestern University (2 admissions), among others.

Fifteen students have received a total of fifteen admissions from Oxbridge in the United Kingdom, with nine admissions from Oxford and six from Cambridge.

In summary, top-tier universities in the United States and the United Kingdom (defined as "Ivy League + Oxbridge + top 10 in the US News & World Report's rankings") have collectively offered thirty admissions to the SHSID class of 2024, with fifteen from each country.

Excluding duplicate admissions, 24 students from SHSID's class of 2024 have received admissions to top-tier universities in the United States and the United Kingdom. These admissions cover a wide range of disciplines, including natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, computer music, comparative literature, international studies, psychology, and others, reflecting the school's dedication to fostering each student's personal growth. Notably, admissions to STEM-related majors account for 80% of the total.

SHSID has maintained a steady and upward trend in admissions to top-tier universities in the US and UK. From 2016 to 2019, approximately 15 students per year received admissions to "Ivy League + Oxbridge + top 10" universities. In the following four years, from 2020 to 2023, this number remained above 20 students annually. In 2024, the number of admissions reached 30 for the first time.

Additionally, six other students from this class received admissions to the top ten liberal arts colleges in the 2024 US News & World Report rankings, including Pomona College (2 admissions), Swarthmore College (1 admission), Wellesley College (1 admission), and Carleton College (2 admissions).

2.In the realm of US university admissions, graduates from SHSID have been well-received by a range of prestigious universities. This year, the University of Chicago admitted 6 students from our school, Rice University admitted 4, and the University of California, Berkeley welcomed 5. Additionally, the University of California, Los Angeles accepted 11 students, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor took in 3, Emory University admitted 12, and New York University admitted 17, and so on. Among the Class of 2024, 33 students secured a total of 41 admissions from the top 20 institutions in the 2024 US News & World Report's undergraduate rankings. Moreover, 46 students gained admission to the top 25 ranked institutions, 75 to the top 30 ranked institutions, and 121 to the top 50 ranked institutions. Aside from the 6 students admitted to colleges ranked in the top 10 of the 2024 US News & World Report's liberal arts rankings, another 6 were admitted to institutions ranked 11-20, including Claremont McKenna College, Wesleyan University, Harvey Mudd College, Smith College, and others. 3.Admissions to UK universities have shown consistent stability, with admissions to Oxbridge reaching new highs and other universities extending multiple offers. Among them, the G5 universities collectively sent 50 admissions offers to 41 students.

4.In Arts admissions this year, notable achievements have been recorded once again. Rhode Island School of Design issued 3 admissions offers, while Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute extended 2 and 4 offers respectively. Additionally, renowned institutions such as Art Center College of Design, California Institute of the Arts, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Berklee College of Music have provided admissions offers. Furthermore, several students have received offers from various dance programs.

5.The class of 2024 has received over 50 admission offers from renowned Canadian universities, including the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, McGill University, and Queen's University. Additionally, universities in Hong Kong, such as the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, have extended a total of 59 offers. Moreover, there have been 5 admission offers from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), 2 from Sophia University in Japan, 1 from the Lyon Business School in France, 3 from Australian universities like the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne, and 3 from prestigious Chinese universities like Tsinghua University and Peking University.

Undoubtedly, being accepted by prestigious universities is thrilling. However, what truly matters is that each student isn't defined by the name of the university they attend but by their exceptional qualities like intelligence, passion, resilience, and dedication. They should strive to develop into better and unique individuals on their future paths in life. The class of 2024 has produced a diverse range of fascinating individuals, including the "Opera Prince," "Dance King of SHSID," "Drama Star," "Rubik's Cube Master," "Bird Watching Professionals," "Sports Star," "Little Artist," and more. They will set off on new life journeys with their dreams and convictions guiding them. The school genuinely hopes that each student will pursue their passions and interests, using knowledge and abilities as a vessel, and effort and dedication as oars to navigate toward the shores of their aspirations.

As high school life comes to an end, the school requests all graduating students to continue diligently completing their high school studies, bringing a satisfactory conclusion to their high school journey.
