Grade 8:SCIMUN Event

March 28, 2019

This March, nine of SHSID’s MUN delegates and their advisors, Mr. Brigham and Mr. Seevers, participated in the Southern China International Model United Nations (SCIMUN) conference. Delegates from all over the world came to attend. The SHSID students were the youngest delegates in the conference as well as the least experienced. In this conference, there were four different committees: The Security Council (SC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the Human Rights Council (HRC). The nine delegates were scattered into different committees and were tasked with working with high schoolers from different schools. Even though their fellow delegates were high schoolers, these SHSID middle schoolers were able to cooperate with them easily, with some even leading high schoolers to form teams. MUN is a competition unlike many others, as delegates mostly perform impromptu. SCIMUN was truly an unforgettable learning experience for the students.
