Puxi Grade3-4: Poetry Competition

May 23, 2019

The 3rd and 4th graders had a final flurry of poetry today! Each student took part in a school-wide poetry slam. The third-grade competition focused on the traditional Japanese poetry form, Haiku. Fourth graders wrote three-stanza poems about Earth. In addition, we learned the structure of different poems and focused on reading fluency and pronunciation.

During this poetry slam, twelve students from the twelve different classes of grade three and grade four took part in the final round! Special guest judges Ms. Bao, our director, Ms. Pilsbury, a 4th grade teacher, Ms. Brittany, a 5th grade teacher, and Tony and Isabella, 5th grade students, were invited to make the final decision for the G3 and G4 twelve poetry slam winners.

We had a wonderful time writing and hearing so many amazing poems! The winners will be announced during next week’s assembly. Students are already looking forward to the poetry slam next year.
