Grades 1-2: Poetry Slam

June 3, 2019

On May 29th, select students from grade one and two participated in the first annual poetry slam.

All grade one and two students watched the finalists perform their poems in front of judges, who would proclaim a poetry slam winner. The selected students performed once in front of their homeroom class and were then voted for to attend round 2: the final competition. Students were judged by Ms. Bao, Ms. Nicole, Ms. Abby, Erin from 4(1), and Edward from 3(1). These judges were looking for loud expressive voices along with fun animated movements that coincided with the poem. These students had practiced reciting the famous poems they selected for weeks, and their hard work was clearly shown during the competition.

All of the students enjoyed attending this event and we look forward to many more poetry activities in the future.
