Grade 6: Cadillac Car Factory Visit

June 5, 2019

On May 30th, the grade 6 students of SHSID went on amazing trips to different companies for Career Day! Class 6(2) explored the Cadillac car factory. The tour at the Cadillac car factory blew everyone’s minds! First, the class went to the staff cafeteria and had a delicious meal. After enjoying their lunches, the students set off to visit different parts of the car factory.

First, the class went to visit the GA Shop, which is where the cars are assembled and tested. The students watched in awe as different car parts were mechanically made throughout the factory. The cars were also tested for steering and other functions. The students learned that when the workers need help, they only need to pull a handle; which tells the managers that they need assistance.

Next, the students went to the Body Shop. The Body Shop is the startling size of 62,000 square meters and has 386 robots. Everyone had a close up look at the metal shell of a Cadillac car, and they were stunned by the intricate designs. The students also saw the assembly lines for attaching the bottom plate, roof, and doors onto the car.

Afterwards, the students of 6(2) traveled to the Cadillac House, a luxurious building with many Cadillac car models. The first floor has several cars on display with LED screens showing additional information about the company. There is also an outdoor car display with a fountain! After ascending up the spiral floating staircase, the students found themselves in a room with different high-tech equipment. There were VR glasses that showed a map of the entire factory, music players, and 3D-printing screens for the students to design their own Cadillac cars!

The students were impressed by this wonderful trip to the Cadillac car factory, and now they have started to understand how technology can be used to improve productivity in a factory.
