Grade 10: Greetings to the 2022 Winter Olympics

February 21, 2022

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics has brought a major storm of the so-called “snow sports” once again among the students. However, due to COVID-19, there was a limitation of where students could travel, but many students found ways to enjoy snow sports in Shanghai as well.

Jason Zhang, a Hockey Club member, mentioned, "As the Winter Olympic Games progressed, more and more people learned about ice hockey. Watching the games played by national teams, I enjoyed being swayed back and forth by the trend of the games. The main reason I enjoyed the hockey games is that my coaches were special guests that commentated on the games. Pointing out arrangements and tactics, I felt attached to the games as I would explain the meaning of my coaches’ words to people watching the games on TV with me."

Brandon Zhang, a snow sports fan, said, "As a child that has pretty much grown up on the ice, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics has been extremely fascinating and inspirational for me. The first time I entered an ice rink, I instantly fell in love with winter sports. I started playing ice hockey at the age of 4, submerging myself in the ice rink 5 days a week, training hours at a time, just purely enjoying and having a great time with my teammates. Along with hockey, I’ve also tried many other sports like curling, snowboarding, and skiing.

Having a childhood tightly attached to ice and snow, the 2022 Winter Olympics hosted in China simply can’t get any better. As of February 20, 2022, China has made its biggest breakthroughs in the history of the Winter Olympics, winning 9 golds, 15 medals total, and countless achievements in every event. With Team China’s addition of some big names like Eileen Gu and Su Yiming, this year’s winter Olympics has so much attention in China. These athletes of the Winter Olympics truly define what the Olympic spirit is. From refusing to give up, fighting injuries, promoting friendly relationships globally, and keeping a good mindset, it all inspires people around the world to work together as a whole and strive for their dreams."
