In this semester’s geography course, 8th grade learned about a range of geographic landforms, global climate and explored two major regions, South Asia and North America. In this process, students gain an initial grasp of the concepts and tools geographers use to perceive the world and develop essential skills such as geographic map skills and explanatory writing.

8th graders first completed cartoons about climate change, extreme weather reports, and climate change awareness posters, learning to identify extreme weather events in different climate zones, assessing the impacts and causes of extreme weather events, and understanding the global effects of climate change and extreme weather by conducting independent research on real-world events.

Students also used the map reading and analysis skills they learned in class, the Earth’s internal tectonic forces, and the case of Yellowstone National Park to design a diorama of Yellowstone and a guide to visit the park. Through these projects, students demonstrated and enhanced independent learning skills such as creativity, critical thinking, inquiry, and research. Students also learn to use their time more effectively and improve their time management skills during these project activities with more extended time frames.

In addition, each year, students participate and share their views on global citizenship, become active participants in a campus building, and explore how the school’s curriculum can help them better grow as global citizens.
