Grade 8: Service-Learning Reflection

January 11, 2022

At the beginning of the new year, the one-semester Service Learning project ended. On January 6th at 1:10 p.m., 8th-grade students held their Service-Learning reflection at the Xian Mian Building auditorium.

Service learning encourage students to assist others and reflect upon their work. This year, aside from the traditional programs like News Group, Photography Group, Gazette, CCTS, there are some new groups to look forward to, like言值社(Yanzhi Club), Cultural Moments, and many others!

Leaders from each service-learning group presented a reflection on what they accomplished this semester and outlined their plan for next semester. However, the service-learning groups we saw during the review are only a tiny part of all. Apart from the highlights shown during the reflection, members’ usual efforts are more worthy of attention and praise. For example, members of Gazette sell magazines at the entrance of the Zhentao building during lunchtime. Students would purchase them for the excellent articles written by students, and more importantly, the money will be donated to charities to help other people. SciAcademy and Medishine focuses on spreading interesting scientific and medical knowledge through offline teaching in different primary schools. CCST and Eco-Cap help to check the duty and clean up the trash on campus.

Under the joint rating of the eighth-grade teachers and students, twelve groups were rated as Gold or Silver Label of service-learning:

Gold Label:

Sci-academy

Smile Charity

Tutor Group

Silver Label:

Photography

Story Buddy

CCST

BBAGG

Gazette

Medishine

ESL Outreach

百叶窗

Cultural Moments

The groups make a difference to the student community and also to the school, society, and the world. We are looking forward to more service-learning reflections next semester.
