January 7, 2022

To promote students’deep understanding of thecontent and cultivate their practicalability and oral languageskills, the grade two Chinese teachersdesigned an activity, which allowed students toact out what they have learned in the textbook.

The scriptsare based on the following texts,“Little Tadpole Looking for TheirMother,”“Cao Chong Weighsan Elephant,”“The Fox and the Tiger,”and“HanhaoBird.” Teachers also selecteda plot from the bookMoles Moon River, which the grade two students read a whole month. All of the five scriptswere adaptedbasedon the original texts.

The grade two students from both the Pudong and Puxi campuses prepared carefully and participated actively in this activity. Their parents also provided a lot of support by preparing the props and costumes. With the guidance of the teachers, students all made significant progress. They were unfamiliar with the lyrics and were too shy to act out initially. However, after many in-class practices, they were all confident enough to perform on the stage.

When the day of the show came, students dressedupthemselves and performed with vivid voicesand richemotions. The serious attitudes and excellent displays of the little actors brought the audience into the stories, generating constant laughter, applause, and cheers. Each class from the Puxi campus chose a group that performed best, then they came totheauditorium on Friday and performed for the whole grade to enjoy, which brought an end to thisfantastic“Arts Festival!”

The Grade 2 students were immersed in the charm of the textbook plays. Throughout the performances, theyimproved their communication and collaborationskills, mastered the textbook knowledge, and mostimportantly, gained self-confidence and courage.
