Grade 4-5: Who’s the Hero of Chinese Characters?

December 12, 2019

"Today, I'm having dictation again. First, I'll give myself a breath." "Bye-bye, typos, watch the strokes carefully." "Chinese characters are so magical that I won't give up learning it." With the rhythm of a recomposed popular song and a dazzling opening video, all the students in Grade 4 and 5 welcomed the final of the annual Chinese Characters Contest on December 12th.

There were seven teams in the final. Each team had two fourth-grade members and two fifth-grade members. They were all the best from the preliminary competition. The final was divided into three rounds. After each round, two teams were knocked out. During "holding the lute to half cover the face" and "knowing the minds of your teammates", the students tried their best to get the highest score in the shortest time. "Seeing through structural parts" and "heaven and earth in characters" tested the contestants' knowledge of Chinese characters and divergent thinking ability. Team One, Two and Four went to the final round. Finally, after the "star shift" and "dragon wagging tail", the team from class 4 (4) and 5 (4) won the championship.

The students not only sensed the charm of Chinese characters in this contest, but also developed the good habit of recognizing and writing characters. This was also a vivid example of how Chinese culture is shared with international education in SHSID. Let's see who will be the future hero of Chinese characters!
