College Open Information Session @ SHSID (II)—— Amherst College & Williams College

September 12, 2018

On the evening of September 9th, around 400 attendees came to the SHSID auditorium to listen to the information session of Amherst College and Williams College.

Mr. Wan Xiaofeng, Admission Representative from Amherst College, briefly introduced the characteristics of liberal arts colleges, which greatly differed from what the attendees may have perceived: liberal arts colleges focusing on providing students with undergraduate programs. Another noteworthy aspect of liberal arts colleges, according to Mr. Wan, was that students are empowered to pursue their personal development through close connections with their instructors, thanks to the small-scale environment.

The admission officers then delivered a detailed introduction of the two prestigious colleges. Ms. Tanya talked about the tutorial system, winter fieldwork activity, and occupation status as well as the academic interests of graduated students. Mr. Wan specifically mentioned the Five College Consortium, presenting rich resources and libraries that the college can offer for its students. He also talked about the support for student research.

The session ended with some time for a Q&A session and college fair. Students and parents showed great interest toward the two colleges and the admission officers enthusiastically answered their inquiries one by one.
