A “This is what I want to do” Moment —Subject, Major, career and your future

The “Subject and your future career day” held in the Zhongxing building on Wednesday superchargee our students’ awareness of courses and future careers. Parents and some subject teachers from Grade 9-10 came to support the activity by presenting lectures focused on different areas based on their personal experiences. Some students found that selecting a major or a specific subject area is a difficult process. It is reasonable for one to take a long time to make this decision, and spend time to weighing the pros and cons of different options before he finally getting a “this is what I want to do” moment, and walking into an undergraduate program without fear or worries.

Various exciting topics attracted drew the students in. Students who wish to be a lawyer went to the lecture by the curator from Fudan law school. “For talented young people, law seems to be an attractive career option,” he said. “One encounters significant challenges as well as accomplishments.”

This career day this time was more than an introduction to the world of work, but also an adventure to discover oneself; to discover the strength within, the motivation, the dream and the power that students require for their future path. One key message heard frequently was that people who work hard should also remain kind and grateful, giving back to the community where they can.

Struggling with one’s major choice presents many challenges to students considering their future career goals. But this career day focused students’ attention on self-exploration and self-development. It is smart to base one’s career goals on one’s inner feelings.
