One Table Two Chairs:SHSID Shakespeare Drama Festival

On the morning of October 21st, after 4 months’ preparation, One Table Two Chairs——Shakespeare Drama Festival was held in the Music and Drama Center at Shanghai High School.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, participants from reputed high schools in Shanghai, including No.2 High School of East China Normal University, Shanghai Foreign Language School, Shanghai Singapore International School, Shanghai Qibao High School and Shanghai High School (both international and local divisions), arrived early at the spot to warm up for the competition.

As the host of this drama festival, Shanghai High School International Division paid special attention to the preparations, including making contact with other schools, arrangement and decoration of the site. SHSID also invited experts from Shanghai Drama Art Center to provide expert direction and support to the participants. Participants competed in 2 parts: performance of prepared dramas of each and improvisation.

In a morning’s intense competition, no time was wasted. Students from No.2 High School of East China Normal University brought to audience the uproariousBank Robber; Cloud Drama Club from Shanghai Foreign Language School broughtMacbethbased on Shakespeare'sMacbethto the stage; SHSID Musical Club presented their ownMidsummer Night’s Dream. In the improvisation part, members of each group worked closely together, and the performances demonstrated how quick-witted they are and what genius they have.

One of the judges is Mr. Ye Xunqian, a Hong Kong film director well-known in Shanghai. He and other judges evaluated different groups’ performance from the following perspectives, including the expressiveness of the entire show, actors’ control of the stage, the script’s originality and the precision of performance.

Eventually, Cloud from Shanghai Foreign Language School took home the Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, and is doubtless the biggest winner of this competition. Best Actress goes to Shanghai High School Musical Club, while Best Supporting Actor goes to Shanghai Singapore International School. Congratulations to all winners!
