Let’s rock the world —British Parliamentary Debate Competition

What is BP? BP is China's largest British Parliamentary Debate Competition for High School Students. Using the British Parliamentary Form style, both online and offline non-profit forums and a competition held in SHSID, BP aims to improve and fine tune BP skills, with the goal of extending the normal debaters view to debate forms other than PF (Public forum debate). Two students of grade 9: Ricky Huang and Daniel Zou organized the competition for the first time in China independently. After BP-SHSID, many other organization have started to create their owe BPcompetitions. In other words, BP-SHSID has truly introduced the idea of BP into China, which was the goal for this organization.

During the debate, the volunteers arrived at 6:30, meeting at the ZXB and getting ready for the competition. Starting from 7:20, volunteers were successful in their jobs as all the debaters knew where to go, and that no safety issues occurred. After registration, as all the debaters had entered room 127, Mr. Ma Feng, SHSID high school Principal, gave an inspiring speech to the participants, announcing the start of the BP Competition. In the first day, the topic was: When in conflict, companies should prioritize the value of shareholders to the interest of the public. On Sunday, the new topic for the debate was announced at 7:00 AM on the BP Wechat official account; This house believes that affirmative action should be used in college applications. The awarding ceremony was held after two days of competitions as both speaker awards and then the team awards were awarded.

What is the core competence of British Parliamentary Debate? The first British Parliamentary Debate held in SHSID included a variety of experienced high-school and middle-school teams from Shenzhen, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Affiliated Middle School from Shanghai Foreign Language School, as well as Cao'er High School. The judges included 3 NSDA Champions as well as a NSDA Semifinal Team. Competing teams included students who will be going to Ivy League schools such as Yale and Dartmouth. BP's cooperating organizations include China's largest Mock Trial Organization PPMT (Organized by students from Yale, Brown, and UC Berkley), the only NSDA approved Debate Organization HSDLS (Organized by NW University Students), Project Twenty-First's LD&P Debate Form Organization (LD and Policy are two different debate forms), INSIGHT CHINA (A Wechat official account for high school students aiming for US and British Colleges, with 500000 followers) and so on. As more and more BP competitions will be organized by the BP group, students are very welcome to join the group by adding the weChat ID: bpdebate or send email to postmaster@bpdebate.com for further information.
