Grade 8: First Experiences with Creative Clubs

After a round of tests, The Art Attack Club started its class. The students proceeded to create illustrations with glitter. Before each of them, the previously blank paper started to bloom with form under the careful hands of the students. Let’s wait and see what the students of Art Attack Club will bring before our eyes after their work is done!

On Thursday, 3rd of March, the new creative writing seminar came together during lunch for the first time. Whether it was to improve their writing skills, or find their style, or simply to have more time for writing, students from all over the 7th and 8th grade swarmed into the classroom to participate in the club’s fantastic activities.

The teacher, Ms. Rachael Stone, first explained the plans and expectations she had in mind for this club. She hoped that everyone here would enjoy writing and creativity as much as her. The students were then arranged into “tribes” according to their interests in literature. Some had a passion for poetry; some enjoyed writing non-fiction narrative; while some dreamed to write their own novel. In this club, they will be able to find the perfect opportunities to complete their love for writing, and transform their imaginations into words.

One of the new innovative clubs has kicked off on Thursday; Music Composition. Firstly the students introduced themselves and what they hoped to accomplish by the time they left the club. Then the teacher introduced major triads, the degrees of a scale, discussing the differences between composers, producers and DJs...The students even gave a small try to the field of music composition, composing a few short pieces. Overall it seems like a wonderful kick start to this fresh club.

At four o’clock of march 3rd, the first class of the after-school club Biology Research, found by Ms. Liu and Ms. Yao has started in the biologic lab. Since there are too many students signed up for this popular club, which is about 45 students, they are arranged to set in two rooms. Ms. Liu and Ms. Yao have prepared a small pre-test which was mainly testing students’ data analysis skills, some basic common knowledge and also the experimental organizing skill, to design an experiment, which would show investigations. All students show great effort during test and the eager desire of participating in different experiments and the enthusiasm of writing research papers in the following semester.
