Grade 10 Pi Day: Love Fun, Love Math

On March 11th, 2016, SHSID grade 9 and 10 had a math carnival: π Day. Early in the morning, the ASB members had placed cardboards shaped as the symbol π in every corner and gap in and around the Zhongxing Building. On each card there is either a number or an operation symbol. In fact, they were used for the π QUEST, the main activity of the π Day carnival. Students searched for the symbols the whole morning between classes, trying to find as many as possible. The leader of each class used all the π cards collected from the classmates to make an equation and tried to figure out the largest number. At last, 10(12) won the quest with the number of 5 digits.

Meanwhile, the carnival also held a fair on the lawn in front of the Zhongxing Building. Carnival games such as 24-points, Pie-throwing, Memorizing π and ‘Draw the Perfect Circle’ attracted not only the students but also the director and the principal. People won fantastic prizes at the carnival and had great fun as well. It turns out that numbers can be attractive, and inspire enthusiasm for math in everyone.
