Music Department: Wind Ensemble Concert

June 1, 2021

On the afternoon of Friday, May 28th, as the lights faded and tubular bells rang in the Grand Auditorium, the SHSID Wind Ensemble started performing "Red in the East". It was followed by "Red Star Shining", during which the performers sang along. Between the magnificent and passionate "Defending the Yellow River", " Red Flag Ode" and "Ode to the Yangtze River", there were lyrical pieces such as "the Story of Spring" and "Moonlit Night".

Most attending parents were familiar with these pieces. And among so many pieces of Chinese traditional music, the Chinese national anthem was hidden everywhere, which triggered the audiences’ patriotic feelings. Finally, "I love you China" ended the concert with the strongest emotion.

The performers all learned a lot from this special concert – including the traditional Chinese performing techniques, and their familiarity of Chinese music. These will all serve as a solid foundation for playing more Chinese music pieces in the future.
