Grade 8: Service-Learning Reflection

May 31, 2021

On May 27th, during the YD period eighth-grade students assembled in the auditorium to attend the semi-annual Service-Learning Reflection event. Service-based learning is something that every student needs to learn. This way of learning has benefited us a lot, for we can serve a community, and we can get inspired during the process. There are many types of service-learning groups in our grade, including the News Group, Photography Group, Poster Group, Lab Assistant Group, Library Helper Group, Story Buddies, and so on. Also, there are other groups, for instance, groups that tend to the campus environment or those that help schools for blind children. Our grade also supports service-learning groups organized by students. After approval, students can organize groups that contribute to the community in a lot of ways. After major events, newsgroup students can receive the photos taken by students from the photography group. Finally, the members of the newsgroup will write articles and post on the SHSID official account. It will also allow students, parents, and teachers to see all kinds of activities in our school.

However, the service-learning groups that we see during the reflection are only a modest part of it. There are many other groups in our grade, such as the Gazette group. Members of this group sell various magazines at the entrance of the Zhentao building during the lunch break. Students can purchase them to read some excellent articles written by students, but more importantly, funds earned are donated to charities to help others in desperate need. Our school encourages us to engage in more service-based programs. In united efforts, we can help the community and enlighten our minds. Let us anticipate even better service-learning groups next semester!
