Grades 7&8: Service-Learning Group Reflection

May 31, 2021

27th March 2021 is a special day because, in YD class, 16 different service-learning groups made their reflection of the year at the auditorium; the 7th graders knew this project and were ready to select their favorite service-learning group in the 8th grade according to their introduction.

This grand show started with the orchestra’s performance. Afterward, the 16 service-learning groups went onto the platform in the auditorium and made their reflections about their group, what they have done this year, and why the 7th graders should join this group next year. Some of the groups similar to the Kendamas group also include a small performance, making the show more amusing.

Some groups make learning closer to social life, and some make learning more fun. For example, Hi-Story is a service-learning group that makes humorous history videos. Many students feel that history is a relatively tiresome subject because learning about things that happened thousands of years ago tends to be unrelated to their present reality.

However, Hi-Story’s videos can change that thought. When a humorous element is added to history class, it can change students’ impression of history as “boring” and help them be more engaged with history. We believe using more videos during history class will considerably improve students’ interest and understanding of history.
