Grades 9-10:Career Day - Keep Going, Expect the Future

May 21, 2021

Course selection, university-major selection, high-school life planning... Students in Grades 9 and 10 are about to face the choices that are closely related to their future. At this critical time, it is significant for us to design some activities for them to deeply understand the world outside school and experience a variety of professional attributes.

On May 19th, 26 parents and guest speakers from Grades 9-10 walked into Zhentao Building to share their work experience in and insights into various industries for the students. They also put forward valuable suggestions for the students' future career planning. The guest speakers brought the students career introductions covering many fields including computer science, animation industry, psychology, consulting, medical care, biology, finance, architecture, marketing, design, and so on. Each parent had prepared an exquisite PPT and informative speech; and some of them had even prepared products developed by their own companies for the students as presents.

During the wonderful lectures, the students interacted enthusiastically with the parents and speakers, actively expressing their expectations for their future careers as high-school students. The guests also exchanged opinions with the students based on their grasp of the dynamic trend of future development. A chief physician talked about the daily life as a doctor, and discussed with the students hot topics like "Will artificial intelligence replace doctors?" The parents who were engaged in psychology research described the development of psychology in different countries, and also shared their true feelings of being a therapist; A scholar doing scientific research at university helped the students learn more about the painful and joyful work of doing research. Alumni who had graduated from our school also shared their learning experience and career paths in the fields of blockchain and information science for students who were interested in computer science.

Having parents share about their careers has ignited the passions of the students, aroused the students’ curiosity about the future, and given them a deep understanding of the wonderful world around them. The students said, "The sharing brought by the parents was great, and it also makes me more thoughtful about my future."

Through this Career Day activities, the students are expected to have learned the link between textbook knowledge and future career choices. We believe the students will work hard for their own visions of the future!
