SHSIDers Performed Excellently at the CTB National Fair

April 28, 2021

China Thinks Big (CTB) is a research-and-innovation challenge focusing on social impact and community implementation. Teams perform rigorous academic research on a topic of their interest and realize their ideas for social change to make tangible impacts on their communities.

At this year's CTB, nine teams from SHSID stood out from over 1,500 teams and entered the National Fair competition. After more than 100 days of research and practice, three teams won first prize, one team won second prize, and three teams won third prize; of these seven teams, six successfully advanced to the Global Finals.

Starting from the familiar world around them, SHSIDers did some research and raised some interesting social questions, such as "how can we bridge the generation gap between grandchildren and grandparents?”, "how can we motivate food-waste composting?”, "how can we effectively recycle the ice packs?” and so on. They also tried to answer these questions through academic research and practical actions, impacting their communities. For example, the proposal of team "Ice-Pack Recyclists" has won the attention of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and has been featured in their work report, and serval media outlets have interviewed the team, including Shanghai TV.

Congratulations to all the teams, and we look forward to seeing your best performances at the Global Finals!
