High School Biology Department: Outdoor Class Activity

April 19, 2021

On April 14th, students from the 11th-grade school-course biology class had an interesting class activity on the lawn in front of Xianmian Building. The topic of the class activity was mimicking natural selection. Through “preying on” and observing multicolored yarn worms which had been randomly spread out on the lawn, students directly perceived the power of camouflage as well as different fitness levels of differently-colored animals in a certain environment. Students were passionate about the activity and participated actively. After the activity, they went back to the classroom, summarized, analyzed, and thought about the collected data. Through this activity, students had a deeper impression on the theory of natural selection and gained a better understanding of how natural selection works. In addition, they relaxed and had fun while learning.
