Grade 1: Puxi Campus: Learning Kindness and Respect

April 16, 2021

This week in Personal Growth class, the students learned all about kindness and respect. We started the lesson by reading Chrysanthemum, a book by Kevin Henkes. It is a story about a little girl named Chrysanthemum. Unfortunately, Chrysanthemum’s classmates were not very kind about her name. Our students each had one heart to take care of, and they were instructed to crumple up their hearts every time they felt that Chrysanthemum’s feelings were hurt. At the end of the story, the students learned that no matter how hard they tried, they would never be able to get the heart back to the way it was before. It was a great lesson on how our words and actions can affect people. The students then used their artistic skills to turn themselves into chrysanthemums. Don’t they look beautiful!
