Primary School Subjects Department: G1 March—The Month of Earth

April 6, 2021

The month of March in first grade Science class has been all about Earth’s resources! We started the month by learning about what a natural resource is and how we can use it. The students used their sharp observational skills to categorize different types of soil and rocks. We learned about the different properties, such as their color, texture, and how they are formed.

We then moved on to learn all about plants. It has been an exciting month as the students have started growing their plants in the classroom! Before we could plant them, though, we needed to find out exactly what a plant needs to survive. To do this, the students experimented in the classroom where they gave seeds different things to help them grow and placed them in different spots around the room. They found out that the plants that grew best had water, soil, space, air, and sunlight.

At last, the students were ready to plant their seeds. To be eco-friendly and to avoid pollution, the students made their planters using reused materials.

We finished off the month by learning about the different parts of a plant and what job each part has. We think our students are going to be plant experts pretty soon!
