Interesting and Efficient Grade One Math Class

September 19, 2019

At SHSID, our students have their math classes taught in English. To help our students adjust to learning math this way, our grade one math teachers have designed a wide variety of interesting math activities that encourage student engagement and participation in lessons.

Students have used materials—such as poker cards, pins, and paper clips—to learn about numbers as a whole and as separate parts and have even used body language to make patterns. In these lessons, the students participate in class-wide, group based, and individual activities. This has allowed them to learn from each other and make friends in the process.

The teachers hope that all the first graders will enjoy their math class more and more as the semester progresses, as this will help develop their math skills and understanding.
