High School Chinese Department: The First Round of Bilingual Debate Competition

October 20, 2022

On October 18, the first round of high school bilingual debate competition was officially launched. The topic was: Social media makes us more/less social. The two teams which composed of SHS students and SHSID students all performed very well.

In the debate, proponents thought that because of social media, people have a more convenient way of communication, and people's life circle has become larger. While the opposite side believed that, due to the emergence of social media, people prefer to choose the virtual communication mode. In fact, only the face-to-face real interaction can make people feel the sense of belonging and existence. So they believed social media makes people less social. Both parties gave lots of reasonable reasons and the audience continued to reward their performance with rounds and rounds of applause.

In the end, Xia from SHS, Ying from SHSID, and  Zhang from SHSID won the best debater titles.
In this round of debate, the debaters were elegant, talented and intelligent; The topic was in line with the current life and was very intellectually stimulating. We hope that the following competitions will be even more exciting!
