Grade 7 YD Class: SMART Goal Setting 2

October 20, 2022

Youth Development is a special subject that SHSID students have. This subject has neither exams nor correct answers to its questions. Its goal is to benefit the students’ psychological growth and to help them overcome obstacles on their path of learning.

On the afternoon of October 20th, the seventh graders reviewed a yearly lesson about S.M.A.R.T goals, which consists of specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound points.

The teachers first led the students to review the concept of “growth mindset”. Through a TED Talk, the teachers told the students that failures can also be good for the overall growth of an individual, since they could accurately reflect mistakes and teach people how to fix them. Then, the teachers handed out S.M.A.R.T goal worksheets and instructed the students to set their own 2022 goals. The teachers wish the students to have a clear and precise plan, which would help them to chase their dreams, whether in a short time or a lifetime.

The teachers added many bits and pieces of their own stories in the tutoring to encourage the students. The listeners provided fun and creative answers as well. The atmosphere of the class was friendly and relaxed when students were writing their worksheets.

Occasionally, the teacher would read out some excellent and clear plans, in order to emphasize the form of an effective S.M.A.R.T goal. Of course, the action is also really important when the students have a good plan. Good luck on the midterms!
