Grade 7: Reading Corner

November 8, 2022

Over the last days of Autumn, all of the G7 classes in SHSID have created their own brand-new “Reading Corners” where students can donate and borrow books from freely. Ever since the Reading Corner was introduced into the classrooms, the students have actively taken part in activities related to it. Many students decided to donate books to the Corner that they hadn’t planned to reread anytime soon, allowing for other interested peers to flip through them. Often, there are students in the halls or homerooms immersed in a book that they have found in the Reading Corner. The act of trying new books that they hadn’t considered to read is a beneficial behavior that the students are now able to exercise because of the opportunities provided to each other. Additionally, the teachers of the 7th grade SHSID students have chosen the top five classes’ Reading Corners. They are as follows:

1st place: Class 7-2

2nd place: Class 7-11

3rd place: Class 7-12

4th place: Class 7-3

5th place: Class 7-5

The winning classes have made an admirable and excellent job in furnishing their Reading Corners. Whether it be Chinese or English, fiction or fact, there is always a book in their Reading Corners that can pique their interest. Books ranging from J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” to an autobiography of Malala’s life, Reading Corners have an undoubted amount of variety and interesting books with their own style. The Corners have been beautifully decorated and displayed in different ways. Some even have the students’ colorful art mingled with posters and slogans to encourage reading. Even though these classes were ranked top 5, it was a difficult decision for the judges to make, and everyone’s class is still cool in its own way.

The Reading Corners will be around all semester, so it is no excuse not to get hooked on a book now!
