High School Physics Department: New Equipment Introduced to the Laboratory

November 9, 2022

This semester, the physics lab added a new piece of equipment: the Lorentz force demonstrator. This week, teachers from the Physics department and members of the PMMC club came to the lab to get a sneak peek.

Once inside the lab, the teachers felt a sense of isolation in the dim light. It turned out that the laboratory teacher, Mr. Liu Yifeng, turned off the indoor lights in order to show the best effect. After a brief adjusting and testing, the blue track formed by the charged moving particles in the magnetic field clearly appeared in front of them.

Subsequently, members of the PMMC also came to visit the laboratory. Under the patient guidance of Mr. Liu Yifeng, the students carefully adjusted the knobs to change the initial velocity of particles, incident angle, magnetic field intensity, and other conditions. The trajectory of particles also changed significantly, respectively. The students opened their eyes wide and marveled at what they saw. Lorentz force, circular motion, electric deflection, magnetic deflection, and other abstract physical concepts had become clear and visible at this moment!

Under the continuous care and support of school leaders and the joint efforts of laboratory teachers and the Physics department, the hardware facilities of the physics laboratory are becoming more and more complete, and the use and management are becoming more and more perfect. The update and supplement of experimental equipment have greatly improved the experimental and practical training conditions and provided strong support for physics-teaching activities.
